What is Woodworm?
Woodworm is the name given to a number of wood boring beetles but especially the common furniture beetle.
The adult beetles make the typical round holes, but that’s not them going in. Those are exit holes.
Woodworm prefer softwoods so are seldom found in the antiques we sell as they are of harder woods and if by any chance woodworm presence has been found it is soon eradicated.

Antique clocks for the timeless appeal
When we think about decorative antiques what often comes to the mind is sculptures and other such decorative elements. However, often simple utilitarian items can also add to a portfolio of decorative antiques. For instance a clock can make the perfect decorative, functional and useful item, that can be incorporated in an appealing manner into the traditional as well as the contemporary home. Amongst our fine antique clocks we have a collection of varied, simple as well as ornate, decorative examples.
The wall clocks for instance can be easily used to add interest to a wall in a very decorative way. If it is possible to distinctively mount a clock in an unexpected way, it will hold a great deal of creative appeal. A cluster of small wall clocks can also make a very interesting and quirky display.
Barometers still hold their appeal
In the past barometers were used to forecast the weather. Not a particularly long range forecast, but reasonably accurate for the next few hours.
In today’s world these barometers have gained a great antique value and have become prized collectibles. An interesting thing about these barometers is that they were usually in tune with the prevalent furniture styles and thus complemented the furniture really well. So today when they are used as decorative antiques they will match in with furniture of that same generation.
Barometers were available in different forms. The varieties included the stick barometers, wheel barometers, clock barometers and aneroid barometers.
