Musical Box >> Disc music box

Music boxes in this category include antique Polyphon disc playing musical boxes of all shapes and sizes. The majority of the disc playing music boxes were made in Leipzig, Germany and we often have examples made by various makers including Polyphon, Symphonion, Kaliope and Lochmann. A group of workers from the Polyphon factory emigrated to New Jersey in America and produced Regina music boxes from 1894. The discs from Polyphon and Regina boxes are interchangeable. Disc music boxes were produced in small sizes for domestic use and these often have pretty inlaid cases. At the same time very large machines were produced with coin in the slot for use commercially, similar to Juke boxes. These were often located in pubs and would provide beautiful automatic music.
